Song stuck in head today: Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand
The 18th ACJC Fun-O-Rama on the 18th of February 2006. I actually woke up early on Saturday, thinking I would be a great deal of help to my class in the final and extremely last minute preparations for our stall. It turns out that no one is coming before 7.30am. At least no one that I rudely awokened at the break of dawn. So... I took an extra-long shower, inclusive of shampoo, conditioner AND mask. Heh. And I took more time than usual to put on my uniform. In the end, instead of catching the 6.40am train like I usually do, I ended up taking the 7-something train and I arrived in school at approximately 8am. And everyone was already there doing something associated with stall decorations. Whoops. So I was stuck with the job of collecting the coupon tins from the General Office during which I managed to get my image permanently imprinted in the archive video for the 18th Fun-O-Rama. Great. My totally bleary, in-need-of-concealer, red-rimmed eyes were publicly shown to the whole school this morning. I knew I should have waved. I should have put on a cheery and perky facade to mask the otherwise tired and sleep-deprived face I plastered on while waiting in line. Oh well... It was all for the fun of Fun-O-Rama. And it truly was fun. I had a blast!!!
All that walking around looking for good food
the tearing off of coupons
the slotting of coupons into tins
the dart-throwing
the badly-disfigured picture of Mao courtesy of the three Barker boys who didn't have anything better to do with their coupons
the dunking (and the cheering after Miss/Mr/Mrs _______ got dunked)
the splashing
the stickers
the walking sandwich boards
the ice drinks
the hot dogs
the face-painting
the gossiping and catching up with friends
the elation after you've won a prize
the greatly overprized wares (seriously, an Oreo tin selling for $12??!)
the long queues for the haunted houses
the screams emitting from the haunted houses
the throngs of girls giggling and squealing after they've emerged from the dark unknown of the various haunted houses into the bright daylight reality of the funfair
the endless trips to the coupon booths to get more coupons after what seemed like your hundredth one have run out
the desperate dash to shelter once the thunderstorm started
the mushy boyband songs we sang while waiting for the rain to stop
the taking down of banners and decorations
the clean up
the loooooong ride home
And that's not it.
Today we counted our coupon collections and it turns out our Happy Three Friends stall earned $700+!! Congrats 1AD1!!
Yeah. Anyhoo.. I'm in pain now from all the typing. We took our vaccination injections for South Africa today. Yeah, my left arm is numb. The whole vaccination before travelling thing is pretty new to me considering I lived in South Africa for like 2 whole years and never fell ill or went to the doctor even once. But prevention's better than cure right? Well except for the case of this sleepiness disease you catch from this flying insect. It's curable, but there's no current available vaccine. Heh.

Song stuck in head today: L.O.V.E. by Ashlee SimpsonYes, I know I haven't updated in eons, but it's honestly
not my fault. I swear. My computer's down and I finish real late that I get home at such an insane hour. My sister actually calls to ask for my location. She
never does that. Ever. But I really love ACJC. I really do. In fact the only reason I'm still thinking of VJC is because of the distance. It would be absolutely perfect if AC and VJ switched places. Well.. actually maybe not because then it would be the same environment as TKGS right? Because then all the same people would go to AC and then it wouldn't be a change in atmosphere at all, and then it would be just be back to square one. Ok anyhoo.. update:
Saturday
My day started off really early. I wanted to watch the inter-schools debate at SRJC. Haha well actually I wanted to watch Joshua Hiew debate because I heard he was really good. And he really was. Well according to him it wasn't his best. Well. If
that wasnt't his best, then his best would be like totally mind-blowing. And no, I'm not exaggerating. Anyway, I left SRJC to head to Shona's house for a class gathering. Or what I thought would be a class gathering. It was more like a 1/4-class gathering. But nevertheless, I had a great time catching up with friends, doing each others' nails with Backstreet Boys pounding out of the radio. Shona = certified Backstreet Boys hardcore fan. Haha but yeah.. Backstreet Boys aren't too bad I must say. Ok, ok I admit. Yes I like their music. And yes I did want to go to their concert. That is if the lack of funds wasn't standing in my way. It was a bit much. But then again.. it is BSB so.. *shrugs*
Rushed home so I could make it in time to change to go to
ACSian Theatre's 'The Guys'. It's their SYF piece and they were showing it to kind of get feedback and comments on it. Overall: AWESOME!! I was completely moved by each of their feelings, their emotions, their words. How they protrayed the firemen who died in the 9/11 tragedy was amazing. And theatre people are just awesome ok. I love them to bits. They're the reason I want to stay to AC. Even my sister says they're great people and it's kind of hard for her to make positive comments on people based on first impressions. So basically, they rock. After the performance was over, we went to
CHIJMES for dinner (we being Shagun, Ben, Laura, Yash, Natalie, Amisha, Lydia, Caroline, Elia, Shawn, Sonia, Noel and Nurul). A big group = big problems. We had to find a restaurant with enough places for all of us to sit together, and finally made our choice after much time spent on pondering, debating, and obstruction of walkways. A lot of conversation went on, us being attention-seeking, everyone-must-listen-to-me-talk drama people with a bit of 'Shag, Shoot, Marry' infused into the evening's entertainment as well. Hmmm.. a certain someone's name certainly kept coming up. A lot. After a humongous, incredibly-overpriced-to-the-point-of-ripping-us-off bill, and our attempts to settle it while the waiter stood nearby impatiently, we finally went on separate ways to head home. Some heading to the MRT, some by bus, and of course, others have that lucky aspect I call 'Parents who can drive and own a car'. Sigh... the good old days. Well Ben and Caroline made up for it. They're very entertaining people to travel with on long journeys. Ben especially. He's an awesome actor and can recite lines so well it might as well be him they put on stage or the big silver screen instead of whatever actor had filled the role before. Hopefully he can come to ACJC. *crosses fingers*
SundayI woke up really looking forward to OG outing at Sentosa. That is until Ramona messaged me to tell me that quite a lot of people bailed. I still thought,
hmmm..maybe at least the remaining half can still have fun. Guess what? Only 3 people turned up at Harborfront station at 12pm: me, Ramona and Min Er.
WHAT???!!!! How can people whom I called and confirmed with that 5th Feb was a good day for OG outing suddenly not turn up?? It was heart-breaking, I tell you. Completely heart-wrenching. What happened to the rest? Why did they bail? Well, the three of us headed to Sentosa anyway. We were determined to enjoy ourselves on the beach. However, Joshua and Sonia arrived aroun 4.30pm and it was better after that. We wanted to throw Joshua in the water due to his late arrival, but then we made it too obvious and so he ran off. Boy, 1 year of intensive P.E. in AC really works man. He could really run! We spent like a good half hour chasing him and trying to find him (it turns out he's pretty slippery too) before finally giving up and turned to making a 3D ACJC in the sand. While we were making it, he suddenly turned up and we decided to play beach soccer! Yay. I love kicking the ball. No scores, no rules. Just lots of laughter, kicking of legs, chasing after the ball and tripping on the sand. Loved every single minute of it. Dinner was spent at Subway. Nurul called (again, it doesnt usually happened) and we irritated her by passing the phone around. Haha sorry Nurul! On the way to the station in the mall, we came across this cute little ride for children and Joshua decided that we all had to ride in it to see how it goes. Haha.. barrel of laughs! Absolutely
everyone was staring at us. I laughed so hard my tummy hurt, and that's never happened in quite a while. So even though the number of people who turned up was quite dismal and disappointing, the company certainly made up for it. Even though Birkettsville are in different classes, lectures and tutorial groups, I still appreciate the fact that we're friends and hope we never ever lose touch or forget each other =).
